We hold approximately 7500 books, with a focus on LGBTIQ+ books published in Australia, by Australian authors, or about Australia. Selected non-Australian historiographical books, biographies and literature are also held. Our Rare Books Collection holds items dating from the mid-19th century as well as association copies and artists’ books.
We also hold a number of personal book collections, including:
- The Ardy Tibby Collection: A notable collection of over 500 volumes of Australian and USA lesbian fiction.
- The David McDiarmid Book Collection: A small collection of 38 volumes from the library of this prominent Australian artist donated by his estate.
- The Colin Simson Collection: Almost 200 volumes of gay erotic pulp fiction from the 1960s to 1980s, published in the USA and UK.
