Bequests

Leaving us a bequest helps future generations know the stories of the struggles and achievements of the LGBTIQ+ communities in Australia and around the world. After you have provided for your loved ones, please consider a gift in your will to maintain our independence and continue to preserve and celebrate our history and grow the organisation into the future.

We are an incorporated association with Deductible Gift Recipient status.

How to leave a gift in your will

If you wish to leave a financial bequest to us, you can ask your solicitor to insert the following clauses into your will:

I give… [insert the appropriate statement selected from the options below] to the Australian Queer Archives Inc (ABN 92450443760)

  1. The whole of my estate
  2. [Insert number] % of my estate
  3. The residue of my estate
  4. [Insert number] % of the residue of my estate
  5. The sum of $ [insert the value of your gift]

Please also include the following declaration in your will:

I declare that a receipt of an officer of the Australian Queer Archives at that time, shall be sufficient to discharge my executor’s duty.

Collection bequests

You might have items that you would like to entrust to us in your will that fall within the scope of our collection policy and that we don’t already hold. If so, please let us know so that we can discuss the nature of the bequest to plan for its acceptance into the collection. We may also advise you on how to ensure that when the time comes, we receive your bequest in the best possible condition.

Safeguarding your bequest

If you intend to make us a beneficiary in your will, we encourage you to let us know and provide us with your executor’s contact details. Experience tells us that people may lose contact with their executors over time, and the location of the original copy of your current will might not be known to those who survive you. Lodging your will with the Probate Office of the Supreme Court is one possible protection.

Your solicitor can provide more advice about the best wording for your will and how best to safeguard it.

Please contact us if you would like more advice on how you can make a lasting contribution to the preservation of Australia’s LGBTIQ+ histories.
