Visit us

Opening hours

We are currently open to volunteers and researchers with appointments, which are available on Mondays 6-10pm, and Wednesdays 10am-5pm and 6-10pm. Please email us to confirm an appointment and the material you wish to access, or to discuss alternative days if you are unable to access on these days.

Getting here

We are located at the Victorian Pride Centre, 79-81 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda. The Pride Centre website provides a map, public transport routes, and nearby parking spaces.

AQuA is located on the mezzanine level, accessible via lift or the main staircase. For lift access choose level ‘M’. You do not need to check in for COVID-19 purposes, but please do sign the AQuA visitors’ book when you arrive.

All visitors are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct and Collection handling policy.

Preparing for your research visit

Please review our collection holdings to identify material you wish to view and contact us by email at least one week in advance to confirm availability of material prior to your visit. This allows time for any offsite material to be brought onsite for your visit. If material is in a non-preservation format (e.g. 8mm film), it can only be accessed subject to digitisation on a cost-recovery charge to the researcher. Please note that some of our holdings are unprocessed. If you have a research enquiry please ask whether we have additional uncatalogued holdings within your research area prior to your visit. Users of the collection will need to complete an Access Agreement, which covers researcher responsibilities in using the collection.

Reading Room facilities

WiFi is available and researchers may bring laptops and digital cameras. A photocopier is available, with a small charge per page. Information on high resolution digital reproduction costs is available in our Schedule of Fees. Standard copyright restrictions apply to our holdings.
