Description
In 1966, Dr A. Bartholomew, the psychiatric superintendent at Pentridge Gaol, advocated for homosexual law reform between consenting adult males. Homosexual law reform was gaining public advocates throughout the 1960s, influenced by law reform in international jurisdictions, such as Britain, as well as an increasing push by liberal humanist groups. The article also highlights the use of aversion therapy in attempts to ‘cure’ homosexuality, and its lack of success for people over 25.
