Ken’s Karate Klub sauna mixtapes
-
Description
AQuA holds a small group of five mixtapes that were played in Ken’s Karate Klub sauna, also known as KKK or later as Ken’s of Kensington in the late 1970s. The mixtapes were created by Ken’s night manager Ulo Klemmer, and form part of his papers. The Archives holds a significant collection of material relating to Ken’s, which was established at 83-85 Anzac Parade, Kensington, in 1973, and operated until 2012. Much of this material was acquired following the closure of the sauna in 2012, and includes lockers, towels, archival material, objects, and photographs.
