Description
The scrapbooks of Ethel May (Monte) Punshon (1882-1989) cover the period 1923-1950s, and assemble information about her ‘tribe’ and interests. The articles in the scrapbook cover a wide range of topics that reflect Monte’s eclectic interests, including the Australia-Japan relationship, sailing and the arts, as well as women in non-traditional occupations, female adventurers, and cross-dressing women. It wasn’t until 1985 that Monte Punshon ‘came out’ publicly, telling a Melbourne gay magazine about her relationships with women.
