Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

For the safety of our volunteers, researchers and visitors our Reading Room is currently closed. We will monitor the situation and provide updates on a reopening date in Latest News and via our social media channels. Reference and basic research requests will continue to be processed by Facebook Messenger and email, however, there may be longer response times.

Reading Room opening hours

Our Reading Room is open by appointment only, 6pm–10pm Monday, and 10:30am–4pm and 6-10pm Wednesdays. Limited additional access may be arranged outside regular opening hours subject to the availability of our friendly volunteers. Contact us to make an appointment

Preparing for your visit

Please review our collection holdings to identify material you wish to view and contact us by email a week in advance to confirm availability of material prior to your visit. This allows time for any offsite material to be brought onsite for your visit. If material is in a non-preservation format (e.g. 8mm film), it can only be accessed subject to digitisation on a cost-recovery charge to the researcher. Please note that some of our holdings are unprocessed. If you have a research enquiry please ask whether we have additional uncatalogued holdings within your research area prior to your visit.

Users of the collection will need to complete an Access Agreement, which covers researcher responsibilities in using the collection.

Reading Room facilities

Our Reading Room has space for up to four researchers. WiFi is available and researchers may bring laptops and digital cameras. A photocopier is available, with a small charge per page. Information on high resolution digital reproduction costs is available in our Schedule of Fees. Standard copyright restrictions apply to our holdings.
