Exhibition: The Air is Electric – David McDiarmid in America

During his travels in the United States, McDiarmid was constantly documenting his experiences in correspondence and photographs, and through these we can start to understand the excitement of the liberatory activism and emergent gay community of the late 1970s – ‘the air was electric’ with new possibilities and freedom.

Embark on a journey through LGBTQIA+ history and culture as we explore and reflect on an inspirational journey of discovery experienced and visualised by David McDiarmid on his first trip to the USA.

Queer Stories: AQuA X NGV

Celebrating Pride Month, NGV and the Australian Queer Archives (AQuA) come together to present an afternoon of personal reflections and queer stories.

Taking inspiration from the NGV Collection and AQuA’s holdings, curators, archivists, and other members of the LGBTIQA+ community will share personal responses to chosen works of art and ephemera with a queer story to tell.

Exhibition: Muru-Ba – First Nations LGBTIQA+ Trailblazers

Muru-ba is a physical and online exhibition showcasing the faces and stories of First Nations LGBTQIA+ Elders involved with the LGBTQIA+ rights and First Nations community movements since the 1970s from across Australia.
