The Australian Transsexual Association Constitution [draft]
Papers of Roberta Perkins
Roberta Perkins (1949-2018) led an extraordinary life as an activist, advocate and academic. She was a pioneer in the fight for trans rights and the rights of sex-workers in Australia. In the early 1980s Roberta became a key member of the Australian Transsexual Association (ATA). She helped form a special lobbying committee within the association to fight for transsexual rights, including birth certificate reform, rights to redress under the anti-discrimination Act and reform for trans prisoners. In October 1982 Roberta led Australia’s first trans rights protest, organised by the ATA in Manly; and in October 1983 through the ATA Roberta helped establish the transgender refuge Tiresias House.
