Description
This notebook was compiled by ACT UP (Melbourne) member Andrew Hansen to document two key ACT UP events: the D-Day Campaign and the ACT UP Fashion Collection. ACT UP was highly active across Australia in the early 1990s, with a range of protests, actions and zaps that varied in size and impact. One of ACT UP’s most significant campaigns took place on 6 June 1991, designated ‘D Day’. The actions included removing the flowers from the Melbourne Floral Clock, replacing them with white crosses, and jumping over the public gallery balcony into the House of Representatives chamber during a sitting; generating a substantial amount of media attention both nationally and internationally. The ACT UP Fashion Collection was a touring performance promoting AIDS awareness.
